Can You Use Lubricant With a Menstrual Cup

Menstrual cups have been designed with you, the average women, in mind. They have been created to make managing your period a great deal easier, more affordable and a lot more convenient. Most women have no trouble in switching from tampons to menstrual cups, noticing that they are inserted and removed in a somewhat similar way. However, this isn’t the case for every woman and that’s not to say that there aren’t any hurdles to overcome when using a menstrual cup. If you are struggling to insert and remove your menstrual cup with ease, you may want to consider using a lubricant.

Using a Lubricant With a Menstrual Cup

Whether insertion is already proving to be a problem or the thought of inserting a menstrual cup on its own is putting you off from trying, lubricant can come in handy. All you need to do is apply a small amount of lubricant to the rim of the cup, fold it in half and insert it as you would normally. The lubricant can make insertion a lot easier, especially if you are finding a lot of resistance without it.

It’s important to not that not all lubricants can be used with a menstrual cup, so don’t simply use whichever bottle you have stored in your bedside table and hope for the best. Do not use oil based lubricants with a menstrual cup, as these can weaken the material over time and you’ll find yourself having to buy a new one. Instead, always opt for a water based lubricant. These work a lot better with a menstrual cup and there’s no risk of accidentally damaging the material. If you don’t have any lubricant to hand you can use tap water, but this is unlikely to work quite as well.

Though getting your period can be an annoyance, there’s no reason for it to affect your day to day life. Whether you are at work or hanging out with friends, there’s no reason for your period to prevent you from doing whatever it is that you like to do. When you wear a menstrual cup, you should find yourself relaxed and forgetting that your period is there at all. You’ll soon see why it’s the first choice period product for many.
